Encaustic and
Encaustic Monotype
Traditional Encaustic is created from a wax based paint (composed of beeswax, Damar resin (hardened sap from a specific fir tree and pigment), which is kept molten on a heated palette. It is applied with a Hake' brush or other Encaustic tools to a sturdy surface and then fused (reheated repeatedly) in order to adhere the paint in layers to create texture and depth.
Encaustic monotyes are created directly on a heated palette and then lifted onto a piece of paper much the same way that a monotype is made in traditional printmaking.
